Myths About Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash Extensions

It’s no secret that long and gorgeous lashes have become a staple in the beauty world and makeup industry. As time goes by, eyelash extensions are becoming more and more popular. But still, even with the hype around this beauty treatment, many are hesitant to set up an appointment. Why, you may ask? Because of the preconceptions surrounding eyelash extensions! In this article, we want to debunk some common myths about eyelash extensions, and the truth behind these statements

Myth #1: Extensions Damage Natural Lashes

The #1 myth surrounding lash extensions is the narrative that extensions damage natural lashes. The truth is, synthetic lash extensions themselves don’t do any damage to the client’s lashes. Instead, the damage can be caused by the improper application process and lack of expertise.

Correct lash separation, high-quality glue and lash technician experience all play a part in the proper eyelash extension process. And so, while the extensions themselves may not cause direct harm to natural lashes, it’s important to consider all of these other factors

Myth #2: Can’t Shower With Lash Extensions

This myth has some truth to it - but let us explain. It’s recommended not to get any water or moisture near the extensions for the first 24-48 hours. Excess moisture can trigger shock curing and weaken the bond between natural lashes and extensions, causing serious damage to the retention power resulting in premature fall out.

Having said that, once the 48 hours are up, taking a shower or washing your face should not be a problem. Just be mindful not to scrub or pull at your lashes during your cleansing routines

Myth #3: Eyelash Extensions Are Permanent

Another reason why many are hesitant to get a gorgeous lash set, is because of the myth going around that these synthetic lashes are permanent solutions. Well, here is the actual truth behind this false statement.

Yes, even though a professional glue, that has a strong material called cyanoacrylate in its composition, is applied to natural lashes, eyelash extensions will last as long as the life cycle of the natural lash. As hair follicles go through phases of growth and fall-out, natural lashes tend to shed every 6 to 8 weeks. Logically, the attached extensions fall out alongside the natural hair follicles. That is why, lash technicians often advise their clients to have regular lash appointments set up, to avoid having major lash line gaps as the hairs begin to fall out. The Eyelash extension myth has been successfully debunked!
