All You Need To Know About Mink Eyelash Extensions

You’ve probably heard of eyelash extensions before, and you’re probably eager to learn more about them. What are they made of? How are they applied? How long do they last? Are they expensive? And are they as low-maintenance as people say they are?

Individual eyelash extensions

 What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Lash extensions are a type of false lashes. They are applied during a special cosmetic procedure, by a trained technician, and they are different from regular false lashes in a number of ways:

  • They are applied at a salon, and you cannot put them on yourself, at home
  • They look more natural
  • They feel more natural, because they’re not as heavy
  • They use a special glue that cannot be used at home or otherwise “topped off”
  • They last much longer than strip lashes or individual false lashes you apply at home

What Are Lash Extensions Made Of?

Eyelash extensions can be made from a few different materials, the most popular being mink lash extensions and silk lash extensions. The mink ones look more natural, because they better mimic real lashes. Silk extensions are beautiful too, but they offer a more dramatic look due to their glossier finish. Most salons use mink lashes for extensions.

How Are Mink Eyelash Extensions Applied?

Mink eyelash extensions are applied individually, strand by strand, on top of your natural lashes. That ensures a more natural look. The individual mink eyelashes are each glued on top of one of your natural lashes, thus ensuring that they look and act the same as natural lashes.

In addition, this means that your natural lashes don’t suffer as a result of the procedure, because they are not glued together in clumps. When the natural growth cycle of the lash comes to an end, the natural lash falls off, together with the extension, but that doesn’t disturb your other lashes, so you are not left with gaps.

The procedure takes around 1:3o to 2 hours and the price depends on the salon, the skill level of the technician, as well as the style of lashes you opt for. A heavier, more dramatic style with more lashes will cost more and will take longer to apply, for example. You can generally expect around $150 - $400.

How Long Do They Last?

Typically, a set of mink lashes should last up to 4 weeks, but that also depends on maintenance. There are certain steps you need to take to keep them looking fresh, which we’ll touch upon in a minute. This also depends on the quality of the lashes and the glue used. Stacy Lash makes mink eyelash extensions kits that look natural and last long and high-quality glue, but other companies may use products that are lower quality and as a result, won’t last as long, or as well.

How Do You Maintain Them?

Maintenance is very important with extensions, so be sure to keep these tips in mind:

  • Stay away from water and moisture for the first 24-48 hours
  • Comb your lashes every day to detangle them
  • Avoid oil-based makeup removers and eye products, as they can damage the glue
  • Avoid rubbing or pulling at your eyes, as to not damage the mink lashes or the glue

As far as cleaning is concerned, you want a mild product that does the job with no rubbing and scrubbing. Something like the Stacy Lash lash shampoo is ideal, because it has a gentle formula and lash artists often use it in their salons.

Eyelash extensions can be a wonderful way to add some oomph to your look and inject some glamour into your daily life, and mink lashes are the way to go!
