Are you interested in eyelash extensions, but you don’t know what kind of kit you need, or which one is the best for your needs? Let’s take a look at the different kinds of kits and their contents, including lash types, lash sizes, curl types, etc.

What Does A Basic Lash Kit Contain?

Let’s start by talking about the basics of a mink lash extensions kit – what does a beginner need? And what does a standard kit contain? Every eyelash extension kit will contain the basic elements: individual lashes, lash glue, lash glue remover, eye shields, tweezers, micro brushes.

Not all individual lash extensions kits will be the same or contain the exact same elements. You may need to purchase some of the tools yourself or look for higher quality alternatives in other places. However, the basic lashes and glues should be included in any basic lash kit you may be looking to purchase. Especially as a beginner, you will not know what kind of products to purchase just yet, so you’d benefit from a kit that is as complete as possible for your first eyelash extensions.

What Is The Best Material For Eyelash Extensions?

When it comes to the actual lash extensions, you might want to look beyond what the basic kit offers, if you want a high-quality product that is durable, flexible, soft, and as natural as possible. Keeping that in mind, what is the best material for eyelash extensions? Well, the best material depends entirely on the needs and preferences of the client, but here are the available options:

  • Faux mink lashes

When you hear about mink lash extensions, chances are they are actually faux mink. There are salons that offer genuine mink lashes, but they are few and far between, they are more expensive and more difficult to maintain (for example, they lose their curl when you get them wet and they need to be curled with a lash curler). In addition, they are not cruelty-free.

Faux mink lashes, on the other hand, look and feel very similar to the real ones, but they are cruelty-free and comparatively easier to wear because they maintain their curl. They are soft, shiny, feel and look natural, and are long-lasting, which makes them perfect for special occasions or even everyday wear. The Stacy Lash Mink Eyelash Extensions are ideal for any kind of kit and are very in demand.

  • Silk lashes

Silk lashes are actually fairly similar to faux mink lashes (and they are made from the same material, but are processed a bit differently). The difference is that silk lashes are a bit more matte in appearance, making them a little bit more subtle.

Silk lashes are excellent for the average client who is looking for lashes for everyday wear. They are not typically ultra-dramatic (unlike say, synthetic lashes), but they can be more glam, depending on the way they are applied.

  • Synthetic lashes

Synthetic lashes are the option that has the most amount of gloss and shine, and they tend to be a bit thicker and less flexible. They are also a tiny bit heavier than the other options. Generally speaking, they are more dramatic-looking than the other types, and they are preferred by clients with thick, dark natural lashes or strong lashes that can “carry” a more dramatic faux lash.

These are also great for events and special occasions, particularly if they are not applied to be worn for the entire 4-week period.

As you can see, when it comes to the best material for eyelash extensions, there is no ideal material for every client, as their needs and wants will differ, but silk and mink lashes tend to be very popular options that work on most clients of all ages and with natural lashes that range from thin and sparse to thick and luscious.

What Are The Lash Curl Types A Kit May Contain?

Believe it or not, there are numerous curl types to sort through when it comes to eyelash extensions, depending on the client, their natural lashes, and their preferences when it comes to the final result. You need multiple mink lash curl types, to accommodate for different eye shapes and what is more flattering to each person. Let’s address the most basic 5 curl types, from least to most curled.

  • J: The J curl is the most natural and doesn’t have very much lift. It’s not very popular, because most clients prefer a more curled look, but it may be appropriate for clients with very straight lashes.
  • B: The B curl is a bit more lifted than J, but not massively so, which makes it ideal for the inner corners of the eye.
  • C: The most popular type of curl is the C curl, because it provides a good amount of lift and curl, without being overly dramatic for everyday wear. Most clients will opt for this one.
  • D: The D curl is becoming more and more popular, because it’s just a little bit more lifted and it has an elegant curl upwards, which looks beautiful and is a bit more dramatic and visible than the C curl.
  • L: L is more of a bend than a curl, as it’s L-shaped. The lashes are certainly visible and lifted with this one, but there isn’t much of an actual curl.

In addition to these types, there are also some hybrids that are starting to become popular and are in demand, which combines some of the lash curl types presented here.

How Do You Choose The Lash Length And Diameter?

Not all the lashes in your kit are going to have the same size, and technicians don’t apply the same eyelash extension sizes on every client. Just like the curl types, lash extensions differ in length and diameter. Here are the most common measurements for lash extensions that you might need in a kit.

When working with clients, the lashes chosen for them should not be more than 2mm to 3mm longer than their natural lashes. This is necessary in order to distribute weight evenly and not harm the natural lashes. The diameter should be chosen according to the natural lash’s diameter, but there is some wiggle room here to allow for a thicker lash that offers a more dramatic appearance.

Keeping that in mind, lash extensions are available with diameters from 0.03mm to 0.30mm. When it comes to lash sizes, 0.15mm is as thick as most lash artists and technicians will go because anything thicker than that is simply too heavy and damages the natural lash. The thicker the false lash, the more strain it will apply on the natural ones.

What Should You Look For In A Kit?

While there is no specific lash kit we can recommend, we can offer some guidelines on what to look for in a lash kit, particularly if you are a beginner when it comes to lash extensions:

  • High-quality products. Chances are that a beginner will not be able to work with products that do not perform the best, so it is in your advantage to look for something that is as high-quality as possible, in order to make the learning curve less steep.
  • Value for money. A nice mid-range kit is great, but you have to make sure that you get enough products for your money.
  • Diversity and options. That means that ideally, your kit will have multiple curl types, multiple lash sizes, etc.

As you can see, there are several things to take into account when looking for your first eyelash extensions kit. Make sure to consider your purchase from all aspects to ensure success.
